Born In Somalia (United Nations Population Fund)
Decimated by over two decades of civil war Somalia is today slowly on the path to recovery. Despite these changes however, the country is still home to some of the worst conditions for pregnant women and newborn children in the world. One in twenty two women die during childbirth and only nine percent of births are attended by a skilled health professional. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the main UN agency for delivering a world where “every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled".
